Conference description

AAVMC Catalyze 2027 is considered one of the leading professional development events in international academic veterinary medicine. Hundreds of educators and leaders from the veterinary medical profession gather every year for a two-and-a-half-day conference that features respected thought leaders from around the world as they explore issues and opportunities, share cutting edge educational research, and engage as a community to support the ability of veterinary educators to thrive.

Submissions will be considered for the following proposal formats. 

Research Presentation: Research on the effectiveness of higher education programs and initiatives, particularly analysis of impact and outcomes and/or assessment of program efficacy and institutional impact. In alignment with the JVME Educational Research Report definition, these submissions are hypothesis-driven with the quality of experimental design and statistical analysis that are expected of any research publication. Successful abstracts will be offered one of the two formats listed below:

• 20 minutes (15 minute presentation; 5 minute Q and A)
• Poster (specific format TBD)

Innovation Case Study: Features program-based initiatives or emerging practices that identifies the problem being addressed, a description of the innovative intervention, initial evidence or evaluation information, lessons learned, and transferability. Successful abstracts will be offered one of the two formats listed below:

• 20 minutes (15 minute presentation; 5 minute Q&A)
• Poster (specific format TBD)

Applied Learning Session: Highly interactive proposals focused on attendees actively practicing or developing specific skills; proposals should have clearly identified skills or competencies, a structured agenda, and tangible outputs for attendees.

• 50-60 minutes

NOTE: AAVMC holds a registered trademark for the acronym CBVE®, which stands for Competency-Based Veterinary Education. Please follow these guidelines if your proposal references CBVE.

• Supporting the Research Mission

Uncertain of which session type to select? Here are some quick decision questions to assist:

• Do you have completed data that you have analyzed? Consider submitting a Research Presentation.
• Is this an existing program with evaluation results? Consider submitting an Innovation Case Study.
• Is your goal to engage the audience around specific Learning Objectives? Consider submitting an Applied Learning Session.

Eligibility and expectations:

• Authors can submit up to two abstracts but can be the primary presenter on only one; they may be a co-presenter on the second submission, if accepted.
• If a session is accepted, presenter(s) are asked to register and pay for the conference; for questions about this policy, please email meetings@aavmc.org.
• Annual Conference Planning Committee members are not eligible to submit a proposal.
• While AAVMC does not prohibit submissions from outside academia, submissions cannot include promotional elements; AAVMC reserves the right to reject submissions it deems promotional.
• AAVMC reserves the right to offer alternative formats that align with programmatic needs; authors are under no obligation to accept an invitation to present.
